Bio

Liz BarrettI’m a full-time editor-in-chief and part-time freelance writer living in beautiful Oxford, Mississippi. Originally from Michigan and a former resident of Los Angeles, California, for 19 years, my journalism career started in high school and progressed through college where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.

In the early years of my career I wrote various marketing materials and ads as well as newsletters, press releases and the like for a professional beauty manufacturer. After working for a popular Internet company, helping to edit line listings and ensure site validity, I provided public relations assistance to an interior design PR firm before moving on to more focused editorial work at a beauty trade publication. While there I wrote and edited several columns, styled products for photo shoots and had a hand in the magazine’s gradual redesign.

When I made the move to Mississippi in 2006, I ramped up my freelance writing and co-authored a local restaurant review column for more than a year. I also accepted a position as editor-in-chief of the foodservice trade publication PMQ Pizza Magazine (www.pmq.com) where over the past year we’ve made numerous improvements to the content and appearance of the book.

I’m currently exploring more food and travel writing, and you’ll see from my samples that I’m versatile with many topics and formats, whether it be product stories, personality profiles, reviews or recipe-driven pieces. I’d love to chat with you about your ideas!

I'm currently serving on the Board of Directors for the International Foodservice Editorial Council (IFEC), an association for writers, editors and public relations professionals working in and with the foodservice media.
